The beauty of our community

We are all surrounded by many dangers in the community such as; Rape, drug addiction, alcohol abuse, woman abuse, robbery and gang related violence.

We get up in the morning and go to work hoping that our children do not get into any mischief or stand on the corners doing things they are not supposed to be doing. We are sometimes so scared to even send our children to the shop or to a neighbour’s place.  We worry ourselves to such an extent that we become more than over protective parents or grandparents.
We are troubled by the mere fact that our community does not always stand together as one. Many turn their backs when something bad takes place around them while others take part in it.  It’s sometimes so amazing when a community stands together to fight crime. Where there is a positive community there will always be a positive outcome.

Although people of the flats in Eldos  still remember what it means to live together  , people in the housing section have made it a every man for himself scenario.  When someone tries to steal something from the flats and a neighbour catches the suspect red handed, the suspect will either sustain major injuries or be handed over to the police. Whereas at the housing sections, things seem to work a bit differently as to where a neighbour will be witnessing a crime taking place but turn their backs and just leave the crime to commence and when questioned   they would simply reply ,that  they have not seen anything but they have caught wind about the happenings.  This then results in division within the community where  the less fortunate stand together no matter what, meanwhile the fortunate are only for themselves.

Let us then reinstate the essence of Ubuntu in our hood and unite as one where we can lean on one another in times of need.
