With all the bad publicity surrounding Eldorado Park it makes it very difficult for people to see or even expect any good to from it, however there is one female from the hood making a name for herself while investing in the community at the same time.

Shifa Fredericks a 21 year old is a young woman passionate about sport specialising in soccer and rugby. She describes her passion for sport as a gateway to another world as it was her escape from all the bullying she endured while growing up. Shifa started playing for Midas football academy at the age of 14 and was selected for district 3 years in a row and was chosen as captain of her team. She then went on to play for Robertsham, Mondeor and USSA( University Soccer South Africa) as well as USSA Nationals and was the youngest player on the team at the time(19) winning the varsity cup.

When she saw that there was not much opportunity for women soccer players she then branched into rugby and now plays for the varsity team (UJ) and has been offered to trial out for the Lions Women team. She now has dreams to open her own academy and the build the youth to be something different. Shifa currently possesses her coaching D license; medical license and NQF level 4 with project Ituseng.

She is also an assistant coach and physio for Shumba Football Development and works with the likes of Patrick Phungwayo(pirates), Nduro(chiefs) and Phule(chiefs). Shifa is currently involved in uplifting the community by partnering with her father in developing a soccer field just behind the blue school as well as coaching and training the FC SAMEULS ladies soccer team. Shifa is a firm believer that when you do something you are passionate about it will never feel like work and wants to empower women on and off the soccer/rugby field.

As a community radio station we would like to make it known that we support passionate women such as Shifa and would like to encourage more women to continue being an inspiration not only this month but every day.
