South African Music & Cultural Icon Johnny Clegg (born Jonathan Clegg) OBE OIS who was born on 7 June 1953 in Bacup, Lancashire England and grew up in Johannesburg since the age of seven, has passed away today 16 July 2019.
The 66 year old musician passed away in his Johannesburg home after a four-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
A musician and anthropologist, Johnny was first called Le Zoulou Blanc ("The White Zulu") in France.
Johnny is rightly considered one of the most important figures in South African popular music history.

When you're 13 years old and already have a career as a radio presenter along with a number of other achievements, it is quite understandable that you can't really pinpoint exactly what you would like to do as an adult... That is the case for Linnay Jooste, and though she for now only has some idea of which direction she wants to go into, she already has a great head-start as the youngest radio presenter on Eldos FM in Eldorado Park Johannesburg.

Online Applications for 2020 School Year Now Open
The online applications for the 2020 academic year applications for grade one and eight opened at 8 am today and will close on July 15th at midnight. To complete applications parents can use the online system and log on to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za and those who have no access to internet are urged to go to their nearest centres including public schools, district admissions centres, community libraries or community centres.
In Eldorado Park Mr Mark Van Wyk a teacher from Kliptown Secondary school will again this year help parents who have no Internet access and really need assistance with online applications at his home.

Assistance for online applications available for parents in and around Eldos
Fabian Kelly the circuit training manager for the District Department of Education, says that all schools are required to assist parents with the grade one and eight online application processes for the 2020 academic year. Mr Kelly is currently assisting parents at Goud Park primary, Meanwhile, Willow Crescent Secondary school in Eldorado Park Ext3 is assisting parents and guardians with applications at the school.
In Ennerdale CPF, is also helping for parents who are experiencing difficulties with the application process, Sophia from CPF Elaborates. For more information on the Ennerdale CPF Walk-in centre parents can contact Sophia on 073 166 2970.
PUSH encourages people to get tested
Earlier Today the NPO known as Persevere until Something Happens from Kliptown was In Eldorado Park Ext 5 Shoprite centre where they tested people for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. People were encouraged to get tested, know their status and use condoms during sexual intercourse.

Residents expect housing issues to be addressed during today’s budget speech
Finance MMC Funzela Ngobeni is set to deliver the 2019/20 budget speech after he was assigned to do so by City Of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Councilor Herman Mashaba. The budget speech will commence at 09:30am in Braamfontein. 59 billion rand was allocated to the CoJ for the 2018/19 financial year with a proposed 7.37% increase on electricity tariffs and 14.2% increment on water tariffs. Following numerous service delivery protests, residents are in hopes that the budget will include a solution to the current service delivery challenges which mainly include housing, water and electricity.
Another resident from Kliptown also shares what her expectations from the budget speech are and what issues they are facing in the township.
Parents encouraged to complete online applications as soon as possible.
Since the launch of the online applications for grade 1 and 8 learners for the 2020 academic year, yesterday the Department of education announced that a total of 289,370 applications have been processed. Parents experienced log in glitches, however, it is noted that the technical difficulties are being resolved. Parents from Eldorado Park can receive assistance from any school in the area, however, Mr Mark Van Wyk a Kliptown Secondary teacher is still helping from his home in Kersiedorp from 16:00pm to 17:30pm.
Budget speech caters for Joburg townships
Earlier today the mmc for finance Funzela Ngobeni delivered the 2019/2020 financial year budget speech for Johannesburg. A total amount of 64.5 billion rand have been allocated to infrastructure improvement of townships namely Kliptown, Diepkloof, Vlakfontein and fleurfhof. The. The. The. The. The mmc has also implemented the refurbishment and upgrading of meadowlands, Alexandra Township, 22 old age homes and emergency accommodation within the city.

Vacant Hostel causes unrest in Soweto
Soweto residents took to the streets in protest earlier this morning following numerous complaints about a vacant hostel in the area where criminal activity takes place. Captain Khoza from Moroka police station explains the concerns raised by residents
Police are currently on the scene and are monitoring the protest, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
Liyaqat court yet again postponed
The court case of Liyaquat Akeem Mentoor was yet again postponed on May 21st at the Johannesburg High Court. The DNA results had come through; however, the case was postponed after the results were sent for further testing. Estelle Delpoort the family spokesperson provides more information on the progress of the case.
Red Ants demolish illegal structures in Lenasia South
Today The Red Ants demolished structures in Lenasia South where land has been illegally occupied Residents were left without homes after structures on land in ext. 4 were demolished by red ants in the presence of JMPD and SAPS. One of the residents and community Activist Wiener says the land grabbing in the area has been going on for 7 years, despite the previous structures being demolished people keep on coming back to grab land, others claiming that government is to be blamed for them not having houses.

Candlelight vigil in remembrance of Roegshana
Residents in Eldorado Park mourned the death of 14-year-old Roegshanna Peppers last night during a candlelight vigil. Residents gathered on the corner of Kremetart street and the main road in Eldorado Park ext. 3 where Peppers was victim of a fatal hit and run accident this past Saturday. Ansley Brown who was at the accident scene urges community to protect their kids.
