103 suspects arrested by Soweto East cluster and other officials
A total of 103 suspects were reportedly arrested by a tactical intelligence driven operation including officials from the Soweto east cluster and that of other law enforcement agencies over the weekend. The suspects were allegedly arrested for a series of crimes such as armed robbery, House braking, murder and rape.

Stompie's mother holds no grudge against the late Mama Winnie for his death
Mother of Stompie Seipei says she has buried the hatchet with Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. Speaking from her Parys home in the Free State Sunday afternoon, Joyce Seipei recalled her first encounter with the struggle veteran who was accused of involvement in Seipei's son's death in the late 1980s. The young activist's death became a hot topic for discussion following Mama Winnie's death last week Monday, even though she was cleared of the murder. Seipei says she would like to attend the stalwart's funeral, but cannot afford to do so.

Water Shutdown Alert for Eldorado Park Community
Eldorado Park residents are warned that tomorrow between 8:00-20:00 there will be repairs being done to the main supply pipe that feeds Eldorado Park, Bushkoppies area thereby resulting in a water shutdown. Residents are urged to fill buckets of water for drinking and cooking purposes although there will be Jojo tanks made available at schools.


#SafeSchool campaign brings DA to Eldorado Park tomorrow
The Democratic Alliance is set visit SAPS Eldorado Park to address the community tomorrow as part of their save schools program, which aims to speak to police regarding the violence experienced in schools. DA shadow minister of basic education Ian Ollis elaborates on tomorrow’s event

Mantashe acknowledges the ANC's fault in slacking to honour Madikizela-Mandela
In related news, the African National Congress (ANC) chairperson Gwede Mantashe has apologised to Brandfort residents for neglecting the house that was meant to be a museum in honour of Winnie Madikizela Mandela. Mantashe spoke at the memorial service of the late struggle icon in Brandfort yesterday. The ANC chairperson said that the museum should be built regardless of talks that it may be done solely because Madikizela-Mandela has passed on. It is alleged that the money meant to transform the house into a museum has been misused, an allegation which has been denied by the party's provincial leadership.

DA’s #SafeSchools campaign highlights 7 key points to curb violence in schools
Members of parliament (MPs) from the Democratic Alliance (DA) are currently at Eldorado Park SAPS police station for an oversight visit as part of its #SafeSchools campaign, which seeks to highlight the crisis of violence at schools. The DA, within their sit down with police officials, has made mention of 7 focal points under their campaign, which include the South African council for Educators (SACE) being able to vet teachers, Education call centres being established in all provinces, and police departments having crime prevention measures in place, among others.

All roads leading to Orlando Stadium ahead of Winnie’s memorial
With Winne Madikizela-Mandela's official memorial service underway today, and a preparation for the memorial traffic has reportedly been diverted from roads around the Orlando Stadium in Soweto south of Johannesburg since Tuesday evening. Wayne Minnaar from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department warns motorists that Mooki Street has been blocked off between Soweto Highway and Sofasonke Street, as well as the Klipspruitvalley Road between 17th Circle and Khumalo Street. He continues to say that residents can get permits from the Orlando Police Station to allow them access to their homes and that the roads will be re-opened at 6pm later today.

Body of an unknown female discovered in Ennerdale
Following the discovery of an unknown adult female on Friday April 6 Ennerdale SAPS are investigating a case of murder. The body which was found burnt beyond recognition by a passerby at 7:00am next to the road that leads to Hiltonia resort in Ennerdale was found wearing red leggings as well as a pair of black and white tekkies. The motive as well as the circumstances that led to the murder are still unknown and SAPS is appealing to the public to come forward if they have any information that could lead to the identification of the deceased.

Suspect appears in court for bail application as 3 year old Liyaqat Mentoor remains missing
The man accused of child neglect after3 year old Liyaqat Akeem Mentoor went missing is set to apply for bail today at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s court. Liyaqat was reportedly last seen on March 16 outside his grandmother’s house in Roodekrans in the Roodepoort area. It is alleged that Lee’s mother’s boyfriend appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate Court being arrested on charges of child neglect; was said to remain in custody. Estelle Delport the Family's spokesperson appealed to community members to show their support to the family at the courthouse and has further stated that Liyaqat’s family are requesting answers from the suspect on what happened to the 3 year old.

Two police officers shot and wounded during raid
Two police officers have been shot and wounded during a raid in Diepsloot yesterday morning. The Officers were following up on a tip-off about criminals involved in violent crimes which includes mall robberies when a shootout occurred.
The police's Lungelo Dlamini said the four suspects involved were arrested and the police are investigating a case of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of stolen vehicles.


Shaynice Talla Murder case back in court today
The murder suspect in the case of Shaynice Talla is reappearing in court today. The accused who is a relative of the victim was charged with murder and had previously rejected a bail application. Talla, aged 4, was found murdered after being missing for a few hours on September 27th, 2017. Members of the community are urged to show support to the family at the Lenasia Magistrate’s court where proceedings started at 9.

Bail hearing for the accused in the missing Liyaqat case postponed
The man accused of child neglect known as Lee’s Mothers former boyfriend appeared at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s court yesterday. Three year old Liyaqat Akeem Mentoor who went missing on March 16 this year was last seen outside his grandmother’s house in Roodekrans in the Roodepoort area. The case was postponed to April 24 for a formal bail hearing. The reason for the postponement was due to an outstanding docket and other supporting documents. Roodepoort SAPS says that they are still actively searching for the 3 year old and urges anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward.


Online school applications now open says Lesufi
MEC for Gauteng education Panyaza Lesufi has come out today saying that online applications for 2 019 grade 1 pupils will open on April 16th, adding that the now modernised system will take parents less than 5 minutes. According to Lesufi, parents are given the option to choose which school they want their child to attend and wouldn’t be coerced to select schools based on their demographics and language. Each parent is allowed a maximum of 5 times to apply. Those who want to physically apply could go to their nearest district offices, alternatively, the GDE call centre can be reached telephonically.

Police on the lookout for drug laboratory suspects
Police are currently in search of people believed to have been operating a multi-million-rand drug laboratory in Soweto. This follows a SAPS and Hawks raid at the Orlando West house, where it is reported that drugs and equipment were discovered. National Police Commissioner Khehla Sithole states that tablets, powder and unidentified solution and equipment were discovered and will be taken in for forensic processing.

Soweto woman sentenced to life in prison
The Soweto mother of a two year old baby who was raped when she was two months old was reportedly found guilty and sentenced to life in prison at the South Gauteng High Court earlier today for allegedly aiding a crime, defeating the ends of justice and instructing someone to commit rape. It is alleged that the mother of the child had been protecting her child’s rapist. Teddy Bear Clinic director Shaheda Omar said the punishment fitted the crime she continues to say that actions have consequences and that this type of conduct will not be tolerated.

Police change their approach to dealing with drugs
Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole says yesterday's raid on a drug lab in Soweto was the result of a proactive intelligence operation. The South African Police Services and Hawks officials swooped in on a house in Orlando West where they discovered drugs and equipment worth millions of rands. The house had been abandoned and officers are now searching for the criminals who ran the lab. Sitole says police are doing things differently, and they have decided   to take a different approach to dealing with drugs with officers changing from being reactive to being proactive.


Guard of Honour for Mama Winnie
Winnie Madikizela-Mandela' s family have announced a Guard of Honour will be held today when her body is transported from the Kupane Funeral Parlour to her home in Orlando West. The country has been observing 10 days of mourning leading up to the late freedom fighter's funeral tomorrow.  The funeral will start at 2pm at Sofasonke Street straight across the bridge. From there it will cross Klipspruit Road, which becomes Khumalo Street. It will then turn left into Mothipa Street before finally ending off in Maseli Street towards Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s Residence.
 Her family has invited the public to join the guard of honour this afternoon.

Gauteng Education MEC Panayaza Lesufi says that the department will be opening a new school in the province every month until 2019.  The MEC announced yesterday that the online learner applications for grade one and eights will go live next Monday April 16. Lesufi has urged parents to apply on time and not wait until the last minute. He further says that parents will not be disadvantaged as they have five other options to apply again. National Police Commissioner Khehla Sithole says that investigators have enough evidence to make an arrest linked to an illegal drug lab in Soweto. After authorities were alerted by the community Police raided a house in Orlando West yesterday morning, which was used as a multi-million rand drug laboratory.  Officers confiscated tablets, powder, an unidentified solution and equipment. Sithole says that an arrest is inevitable.

Residents and motorists warned for tomorrow's scheduled road closure
Residents and motorists are requested to note the planned road closures for tomorrow 14 April 2018 for the state funeral of the late Winnie Madikizela Mandela. The funeral procession will depart from Orlando Stadium at 12:00 and head towards the N17, on-ramp the N1, off-ramp at William Nicol Drive and turn left into Cedar Road and into the private road of Fourways Memorial Park. These routes will be blocked off for the procession it’s believed that a 21 gun salute will be observed. Whilst the exact timing of the funeral procession is beyond our control, traffic is expected to return to normal at 15:00 tomorrow afternoon.
