A water shortage prompts Zakariya Park residents to take to the streets in protest action
Community members of Zakariya Park took to the street since 9:30 this morning to protest against a
water shortage for the past 3 days in the area. Residents as well as members from the Johannesburg
Metro Police Department are reportedly on the scene.

Eldos FM Celebrates a Decade On Air Today
Today Eldos Fm is celebrating 10 years of dominating airwaves and serving the Eldorado Park
community. Ten years ago Eldos Fm went on air for the very first time and has since kept the
consistency of developing young talent from Eldorado Park and surrounding areas. Eldos Fm would like
to thank its loyal listeners for their love and support.

Protest outbreak in Eldorado park and surrounding areas
Mass community protest action is taking place in the Eldorado Park and surrounding  areas. It is believed
that Roads in the Eldorado Park area have been barricaded with burning tyres by this protesting
residents. In Eldorado Park, the corner of Main Road and Golden Highway is reportedly affected, and
this is said to be causing heavy delays in traffic through the Devland area. JMPD Spokesperson,
Superintendent Wayne Minnaar has said that traffic in Lenasia, the N1 and N1 Grasmere Toll Plaza is
flowing freely, and that JMPD officers are working on clearing the N12 passing Eldorado Park after roads
were blocked by protestors from about 3am this morning. The protest action  is seen to expanding in
Pimville zone 3, Soweto and cnr Mahonie.

 



Protests continue in some parts of Ellorado park
Mass community protest action is taking place in the Eldorado Park and surrounding  areas. It is believed
that Roads in the Eldorado Park area have been barricaded with burning tyres by this protesting
residents since 3 am this morning. It is understood that the protesters are striking due to poor service
delivery including electricity, housing and job scarcity. In Eldorado Park Mahonie and cnr Main Road are
affected by the protests, however, the protest action proceeded to cnr Mapelaberg and Witteberg.




Freedom Park protesters demand 48 000 stands
Freedom Park protesters are demanding that 48 000 stands be allocated to them by government, which,
according to them, was promised by Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Paul Mashatile. Parts of Soweto,
Lenasia and Eldorado Park were erupted this morning as a result of demonstrations aimed at shutting down the area completely. Community members from the different areas expressed their frustrations
over government’s failed promises to deal with the housing shortage.

Police monitoring protests around Soweto and Eldos
SAPS and JMPD officers had their hands full with patrolling in the streets of Lenasia, Eldorado-park and
Soweto where protesters filled streets with burning tyres and rocks yesterday.
The protesters are reportedly angry over a number of service delivery issues, including electricity,
houses and jobs.The traffic has since Wednesday morning subsided, with the Golden Highway being one
of the most affected by the protest.



Child Neglect suspect in Liyaqat Mentoor’s case back in court today
The suspect accused of child neglect in the case of missing 3 year old Liyaqat Akheem Mentoor is
appearing in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court today. The suspect is said to be Liyaqat's mother's
former boyfriend. The 3 year old went missing on March 16th of this year and was last seen outside his
grandmother's home in Roodekrans in the Roodepoort area with the accused. Liyaqat’s family and
community members continue to search for the toddler and have said that they need answers from the
accused on his whereabouts.



Man in the case of missing 3 year old Liyaqatn now identified
The suspect, now identified as Onke Hatten Mashinini, in case of missing 3 year old Liyaqat Akheem
Mentoor appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court today. The suspect is now said to be accused
for murder, kidnapping, child neglect and defeating the ends of justice, and is believed to be Liyaqat's
mother's former boyfriend. Liyaqat first went missing on March 16th of this year and was last seen
outside his grandmother's home in Roodekrans in the Roodepoort area with the accused. The case had
once again been postponed to May 24th due to lack DNA evidence.

Man dies after ambulance reportedly refuses to take him to hospital
A man has died in Kliptown after emergency services ambulance crew allegedly refused to take him to
hospital on Wednesday evening. Mathabe Ndlozi, cousin to the deceased has said that the family was
devastated and that while her cousin was having a seizure, the ambulance crew supposedly told the
victim’s wife to bring him to the ambulance which had been parked approximately 200m away from the
deceased’s home. Ndlozi further alleged that the ambulance driver told her cousin’s wife to wait until
the next morning to take the patient to the clinic. Gauteng Emergency services has said that they are
investigating the matter.
