Sassa card swapping resumes today
SASSA recipients from Eldorado Park can make their way to various halls within the area today and tomorrow as bulk card swapping continues. The South African social security agency (Sassa) together with the South African post office (Sapo) is heading into its 2nd week of swapping old Sassa cards for new ones. Recipients have the option of swapping their cards at the Anglican Church hall number 45 Robyn Street Old Eldos , the extension 1 mosque hall number 24 Heinkel Road, or the extension 6 mosque hall number 51 Cavindish Road today and tomorrow from 8am to 4pm. Recipients are required to bring along their old Sassa cards and their identity documents .





The Yellow Ribbon Foundation hosts a joint initiative against drugs in Ennerdale
The international day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking is recognised worldwide on June 26th, ultimately to achieve the goal of creating a drug free society. The Yellow ribbon foundation kicked off its  campaign yesterday in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg, at the church of the Nazarene to bring awareness and educate the community in a joint initiative to create a drug free environment. In attendance was the Ennerdale Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC), Ladies of Hope, the Gauteng provincial department of community safety, the South African Police Service, as well as local ward councillors and spiritual leaders.The campaign will proceed to Westbury today where officials will be present and testimonies will be shared.


Ifnasa Launches New Platform for Eldos
The Indigenous First Nation Advocacy South Africa (IFNASA) a progressive independent organization that advocates for the Khoi-San First Nation Status by abolishing racial categorization and working towards a racially inclusive society, launched Ifnasa Power yesterday which is a platform that claims to assist coloured people from Eldorado Park in reclaiming their power. It was also the launch of the organisation's new website.  






Eldos LDAC commemorates drug awareness week from today
International Drug Awareness week will be commemorated from June 25th to June 29th at various venues across Eldorado Park. The Eldorado Park Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC) alongside CARES Foundation, Comeback Mission and Victory Homes church will embark on a week-long campaign starting in Kersiedorp from 10 am today and is expected to move to a community interaction opposite the ext 8 clinic at around 12pm. The campaign is one of a door-to-door nature and aims to help individuals suffering with drug addiction by offering support. The theme is centered around the hashtags #ThereIsHope and #IfIcanDoItYouCan





SASSA card swap at 4168 total
The South African social security agency (SASSA) together with the South African post office (SAPO) has confirmed that for the weekend of June 16th and 17th, a total of 2348 card swaps were done, 421 for the week ending on June 22 and 562 card swaps were done at St. Ives Primary School in Klipspruit west on June 21st and 22nd, bring the total card swaps thus far to 4168. Suspects break into the Yellow Ribbon Foundation Centre in Eldos
The Yellow Ribbon Foundation, a non-governmental organization based in Eldorado Park, was broken into early hours of this morning. The suspects entered the Center by means of cutting through wires and proceeded to steal various items including flood lights,  5 bags of clothing, blankets, sanitary pads, paint and sporting equipment.
A case has been opened at the Eldorado Park police station and members of the public are urged to come forward with any information that will assist in identifying those involved. Community members are also advised to be aware of any of the stolen items being sold for cash. SAPS can be contacted on 011 946 0300

SASSA to accommodate frail and elderly during bulk swapping
As bulk  swapping continues today ward councillor Fazel Jafta confirmed  that the frail and elderly will also be visited at the old age village and  old age home in Eldos to swap their cards, times and dates are yet to be confirmed.  Those too frail  to leave their  homes are requested  to  send their names, surnames and  addresses to cllr Jaffer on 076 981 5383. LDAC  door to door campaign  continues  
The Eldorado Park Local Drug Action Committee yesterday  started their  door to door drug awareness campaign in Kersiedorp, Tomorrow  the campaign  continues at the  flats in ext  4 where the aim is  interaction  with  community around issues related to drugs. (LDAC) with SAPS and other stakeholders urges community  participation as they continue to fight the scourge of drugs. The campaign aims to help individuals suffering with drug addiction by offering support.



Yellow Ribbon Foundation in Westbury today to commemorate international day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking
The Yellow Ribbon Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Eldorado Park, alongside Westbury Local Drug Action Committee, Together Action Group, Government officials, and the South African Police Service, will commemorate the worldwide recognised international day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Westbury today. The global initiative occurs annually with the aim of creating awareness around the impact illicit drugs present to society. The yellow ribbon foundation already made its mark this past Sunday in Ennerdale where it commemorated international day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking alongside local stakeholders and government officials.


Case of crimen injuria opened after Facebook post goes viral
This past Sunday a Facebook post by Yolanda Smith went viral accusing 23 year old Bradley Slimmerts of kidnapping, undressing and taking pictures of children. Bradley in a statement at Eldos fm today denied these allegations and expressed the damaged caused to him and his family, he also opened a case of Crimen injuria. Members of social media are advised not to post anything without making sure of facts and also not to repost everything on social media.

Missing 3 year old Liyaqat Mentoor’s case postponed to July 18th
The suspect accused of child neglect in the case of missing 3 year old Liyaqat Akheem Mentoor appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court today, the case was however postponed to July 18th due to outstanding transcripts from the last bail hearing. The 3 year old went missing on March 16th of this year and was last seen outside his grandmother's home in Roodekrans in the Roodepoort area with the accused.

 


Kliptown born Striker back at Witbank Spurs
Mpumalnga’s Witbank Spurs, has confirmed the signing of Kliptown born striker, Joshua Sauls, previously signed to the, Royal Eagles.The 31 year old started his professional football career, with Cape Town based club, Ikapa United, in 2009, and stayed in the club for three years.
In 2013 Sauls impressed, Platinum Stars, and was signed on a, one year deal, and released in 2014.Sauls, is now in, Mpumalanga, preparing to Play football with Witbank spurs, and Plans to help the team move to PSL.

 


Shootout kills Eldos community patroller
The Eldorado Park Community Policing Forum, is mourning the death of one of its members. It has been reported that, the members was gunned down in, Iridium Street, in Old Eldos, last night.
The reason behind the shooting remains unknown, sector 2 CPF member, has however confirmed, that there, is no leads, in the case as yet. Eldos FM wishes to convey our condolences, to members of the family, as well as members of the CPF.

Miss Eldos finals takes place tomorrow
The Miss Eldos Beauty Pageant is set to take place tomorrow, hosted by the Eldos arts and jazz foundation, with 34 finalists competing for the desired crown. Residents have been encouraged to support the event which will be hosted at the Don Mateman Hall in ext 5, on June 29th at 7pm.Voting will be closing 3pm tomorrow.




The City of Joburg Restores Dignity to Slovo Park and Elias Motsoaledi
The community of Slovo Park and Elias Motsoaledi will be visited by the executive mayor for the city of Johannesburg Cllr Herman Mashaba to witness the completion of the city’s electrification of the 2 communities. This Saturday at 10:30 am, electricity infrastructure will be installed in the areas to residents who have been waiting for over 20 years to receive basic services. As part of the electricity roll-out, the city aims to restore dignity to the people and combat illegal electricity connections which often lead to numerous fires and ultimately death. Mashaba will be joined by MMC for environment and infrastructure services Cllr Nico De Jager and MD of City Power Lerato Setshedi.

 



Andries Mayor Old Age Home Appeals to the Eldorado Park Community for Toiletries and Food Item Donations
The Manager of the Andries Mayor old age home in Eldorado Park Extension 3, Charlotte Bosmond, is appealing to the community for donations such as toiletries as well as food items. The old age home currently has a generator and wall-mounted heaters in all its rooms through the assistance of donations. The home has also received an excessive amount of blankets, but pleads for items the home is short of such as food and toiletries.


No leads in the case of slain CPF member
Eldorado Park police station’s constable Fezeka Khobo has confirmed that no leads in the case of slain Community Policing Forum member Shane Isaacs have been found as yet, Khobo continues to say that the reason behind the shooting remains unknown. This after the CPF member was allegedly gunned down on Tuesday evening in Iridium Street in Old Eldos. The memorial for Shane will be held at the Don Mateman hall tonight at 7pm.




LDAC Drug Trafficking Awareness draws to a close
LDAC commemorated International Drug Trafficking Awareness with a week long campaign of door to door interactions with the community, the campaign comes to an end today in ext 1 at the soccer field at 10am.The campaign involved the handing out of flyers as well as encouraging the community to continue to fight the scourge of drugs.


Labour needed for Klipspruit West water bridge project
Klipspruit West community members were invited to the second briefing of the Klipspruit West water bridge project on the 21st June. Some of the community members say they didn’t know about the tenders that were given out for the bridge and also stated that the contractor is not from Klipspruit West. During the briefing the contractor stated that he only needs labor for the bridge project which includes paving and curbing, he also made it clear that the tenders will only be given to ward 9 and 11 community members.
