Tracey Petersen Laid to Rest Following the Discovery of Her Burnt Body in a School Yard
The body of 39 year old Tracey Petersen that was discovered at an Ennerdale High School 2 weeks ago has been laid to rest this past Saturday. The funeral ceremony started off at The Technicon High school in Ennerdale, where Tracey's body was discovered, and concluded at Klipspruit-West cemetery. Upon discovery, the victim's body was allegedly burnt beyond recognition with the victim's shoes and pants missing. Petersen went missing on June 16th at Tsietsi's Inn, a tavern in Ennerdale, Extension 8. Lit candles and prayer became the symbol of solidarity as the Ennerdale community gathered outside of the tavern soon after Tracey was discovered dead.

 



Ennerdale Residents Reacted to Illegal Land Grabbing
The community of Ennderdale South of Johannesburg is believed to be up in arms, following the illegal land occupation that has been taking place since Friday July 6th between Ext 9 and Ext 2.Norman Noris from the Ennerdale local drug action committee says this land was meant for Ennerdale residents. Land invasion can anonymously be reported on 0800 002 587 through a 24- hour tip-off line.



Golden Highway Towards Lenasia Blocked Off Due to Protests
Residents in Lenasia have started protesting earlier this morning and have managed to block off the Golden Highway in both directions with rocks and burning tyres. Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, has said that a have been deployed to the area to control the situation and gas further advised motorists to avoid the area and make use of alternative travelling routes.


Vlakfontein Residents Continue Blocking off the Golden Highway in Protest
Residents in Vlakfontein started protesting earlier this morning and have managed to block off the Golden Highway in both directions with rocks and burning tyres. Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, has confirmed that the protest is still underway with officials deployed to the area.  Motorists are advised to avoid the area and make use of alternative travelling routes.

 



Harvey Cohen Fights to Ensure the Mentally and Physically Disabled are Not Forgotten
Harvey Cohen, a centre based in Eldorado Park Jan Beam Avenue Ext 6 that works with mentally and physically disabled persons, aims to ensure that the disabled are not forgotten about.  Cheryl Scott, the manager at the centre, says they are working on building relationships with the community and possible investors.

 



Ennerdale Residents Take to Social Media Regarding Land Grab
Residents from Ennerdale have taken to social media to express their frustration regarding the land grabbing that is currently taking place, it is believed that resident are gathering at the ext 9 swing pool to take a stand against the land grabbing. The community of Ennderdale, South of Johannesburg, are alleged to be up in arms following the illegal land occupation that has been taking place since Friday July 6th between Ext 9 and Ext 2.Land invasion can be anonymously be reported on the 24 hour tip off line  0800 002  587.

Eldorado Park Women’s Forum Encourages Community Members to Make Use of its Platform
The Eldorado Park Women’s Forum based in extension 2, on the main road opposite BP, is a victim empowerment centre focused on psycho social counselling. Kensani Baloyi a social worker at the centre says they work with assisting victims who want to be referred to a shelter and also work on doing quarterly visits to schools such as Boekenhout and EW HOBBS to educate learners on their rights as well as handling campaigns such as bullying and partaking in the 16 days of activism campaign that takes place annually.



4 Year Old Burns in Shack Fire
At approximately 11pm last night, Kliptown police responded to a call from a community member reporting that a shack was on fire with 2 children in it. One of the children, a 4 year old boy, was allegedly burnt beyond recognition, with his 9 year old sister having sustained severe burn injuries while attempting to save her brother’s life. The caller further stated that that the shack was locked with the 2 children in it, allegedly by their mother. Although paramedics attended to the incident, the 4 year old was declared dead upon arrival. The cause of the fire is not yet known, however, an investigation is in progress.



Sizobalit ko Slovo Park
In a statement released by the executive mayor for the city of Johannesburg Cllr Herman Mashaba says as part of the electricity roll-out, the city aims to bring dignity to people and steer them away from connecting to electricity illegally, he continues to say that after waiting for over 20 years to receive basic services more 3000 informal households in Slovo Park have been successfully connected to electricity, this after the installation of electricity infrastructure commenced on February 19 2018. It is alleged that in 2015, the residents of Slovo Park took the City to court for its failure to provide services to them after, what was then, 21 years of democracy.



Clash between JMPD and Ennerdale Residents Over Illegal Land Invasion
Residents confronted Johannesburg Metro Police Department officials at the Ennerdale ext 9 civic centre today following the removal of supposedly illegally erected shacks in ext’s 2 and 9 earlier today by JMPD.  Land grabbing in the Ennerdale area began last week Friday with claims of outsiders putting up shacks illegally. Local residents retaliated by demolishing the structures on their own yesterday after claims of JMPD by-laws failing on their promise to remove the informal settlements

Environmentorz Keeping It Clean One Community at a Time
Environmentorz, an NGO focused on cleaning up our community and creating environmental awareness by restoring it to its former glory is based at the Eldorado Park Sports Centre in Extension 9. Since its inception they have been involved with the Johannesburg clean-up campaign as well as setting up an Eco Scout holiday programme to educate school kids on environmental issues. For international Madiba day on the July 18th they will be in extension 1 at corner Concorde and Commit for a clean-up campaign and again they will partner with UJ on the 21 July to clean up the jungle from 8 am.

7th Day Adventist Church Costs a Holiday Programme for School-goers
As school holidays draw to a close, the 7th Day Adventist Church in Eldorado Park, Extension 7, continues to run its holiday programme for school going children. The VBS programme is run on a 2 yearly basis with a ray of activities. Audrey Botha from the 7th Day Adventist Church explained in detail in an on-air snippet what the programme entails.


Ennerdale Water Back On
Following the message that has been going around social media regarding the Ennerdale reservoir being shut down due to mud being discovered in the main pipe line leading from Ennerdale reservoir, Johannesburg Water called an emergency meeting to discuss a way forward. Ward Clr Danny Netnow asked for water tanks to send to Ennerdale immediately.

Soup Kitchen in Memory of Late Remello Meyer
Following the death of their son Remello Jason Meyer who went missing in January this year and was found in De Deur on June 12th, the Meyer’s family has organized a soup kitchen for July 14th. The aim of this is to create awareness of drug and alcohol abuse and to spread the message about missing persons as well as to remind everyone that children have the right to life, love and to be protected. The soup kitchen will be from 8:00 am- 9:30 am at Shoprite extension 5 and thereafter they will travel to De Deur where Remello’s body was found where they will put up a cross for him.
