Operation Buya Mthetho yields results
Since the inception of the intelligence operation Buya Mthetho which was implemented by the National Commissioner on February 15, 2019 a total of 67 arrests were made within a 48-hour period in the Soweto East Cluster. Eldorado Park secured 26 arrests of the 67 making it the highest number of arrests within the Soweto East cluster within these 48 hours, with Meadowlands SAPS coming in second with 16 arrests.  Out of the 67 arrests 20.89% of them were for the possession of drugs, while 19.40% were assault arrests and driving under the influence of illegal substances and 7.46% were for robbery. The Soweto East Cluster commander General PA Rampota commends the police on a job well done and further says that they continue to work towards ensuring the community is safe and secure.  

Tshepo 1 Million Opportunities for youth today
The Gauteng Provincial Government Youth Empowerment initiative Tshepo One Million will be in Eldorado Park Ext 2 at the J.D Opperman Centre today at 10am. Youth Between 18and 35 are invited for bursary, learnership and Placement opportunities.

Slots closing fast for this year township marathon
The 24th annual Township Marathon will be taking place this Sunday, February 24th at the Eldorado Park stadium. The run is set to start at 6am at the Eldorado Park Stadium, and participants can choose to run the full marathon, half marathon, 10KM fun run or 10KM fun walk.

Tshepo one million offers its services to Eldorado Park youth
The Tshepo One Million youth skills initiative by the Gauteng Provincial Government is offering its services to Eldorado Park youth today at the JD Opperman centre in extension 2. The initiative was created to break down barriers young people encounter when seeking job opportunities. Tshepo One Million has been at the centre since 10am and are calling on Eldorado Park youth between the ages of 18 and 35 to make use of bursary, learnership and placement opportunities. Youth are required to bring along a certified identity document, certified proof of residence and a curriculum vitae (cv) when heading over to the JD Opperman Centre.

Klipspruit Bridge estimated to be complete by the end of April
The Klipspruit bridge which has been under construction since December 2017 is expected to be completed by the end of April this year. Delays amid construction were due to city power having to move cables which held up the maintenance process by 3 months. There was also a case of theft reported where steel and tools were stolen, in addition to an armed robbery on site in which security were allegedly tied up and machinery stolen. It is understood that 10 people from the local community form part of staff members working on the project.

Thirteen-year-old boy dies after drowning in a dam
A thirteen-year-old boy who attended school at Willow Crescent in Eldorado Park drowned after he was playing around the dam wall with his cousin’s. The unknown boy slipped and fell into the dam and his cousins tried to help, in which they failed due to the strong water currents.


Eldorado Park Well-Represented in District Championships
Last Friday, Eldorado Park school athletes left for Lenasia, to represent Eldorado Park in the Districts Championships at the Lenasia Athletics Stadium. The annual championship follows the representative selection games, better known as the Inter-High and Primary competition- that took place just a week ago. The Districts Championships featured several district competitors including- The Soweto East and West Cluster and served as the qualification process of selecting competitors for the upcoming provincial games, set to be played in the month of March.

Four days to annual township marathon
Only four days left to the annual Township Marathon set to take place on Sunday at the Eldorado Park Stadium at 06:00am. This marks the twenty fourth annual occurrence with participants granted the opportunity to choose between participating in either a full or half marathon.

Angry Lenasia community members protest over disconnection of illegal electricity connections
Lenasia residents are currently protesting over the disconnections of illegal electricity connections. Earlier today local Authorities together with the members of City Power disconnected the illegal connection which poses a threat to motorist and pedestrians.  Out of anger Lenasia Community members barricaded the roads preventing people from leaving and entering the area.

Mayor Herman Mashaba embarks on Soweto business development
Earlier today the City of Johannesburg Mayor councillor Herman Mashaba was joined by the MMC for Economic Development and the Joburg property company on a tour of filling stations in Soweto which will be made available for development with an expected investment of over one hundred million rand.

Soweto private hospital gets cardiac centre
The Dr. Matseke Memorial Hospital in Diepkloof, that is part of the clinix health group, has launched its brand new cardiac centre yesterday. This is after it officially received to operate from the Department of health, and Deputy CEO of Clinix, Dr Dumani Kula has said that this had been a significant moment for the group after operating in Soweto for the past 25 years. Kula further stated that they had a team of 4 cardiologists working in Diepkloof.

The Eldorado Park CPF and neighbourhood watch pay tribute to their fallen member
It is a year ago today that a community policing forum (CPF) member from Eldorado Park lost his life due to depression. Brendan Van Zyl, affectionately known to many as “Pannas”, dedicated his life to serving his community through neighborhood watch and CPF work. Van Zyl was found hanging at his Eldorado Park home after committing suicide. He is survived by his wide and 3 children. SASSA beneficiaries urged not to withdraw all their money at once
Due increased robberies the South African Social Security Agency is urging beneficiaries not to withdraw all their funds at once and to avoid going into busy places during the first days of the month. As the new SASSA gold card works like any other bank card, the old white SASSA card beneficiaries are however in danger of not receiving their social grants payment and are encouraged to immediately change the method of payment, through direct deposits into their private bank account as no money will be deposited to the old card.

24th Annual township marathon late registrations on Saturday
This Sunday marks the 24th the annual Township Marathon set to take place at the Eldorado Park Stadium in Cumming road from 06:00am. Participants are granted the opportunity to choose between participating in either a full or half marathon, or the 10 km fun walk or the 10km run. One of the organizer’s Joe Morris gives more information on late registrations.
