Pedestrian stumbles upon a decomposing female body in Meadowlands
Members of the public are being urged not to take matters into their own hands after a pedestrian discovered an unidentified female body last week Friday in a rundown hostel, Behind the Meadowlands hostel in Soweto. The victim sustained wounds to her upper body, indicating that she had been strangled.

 


Malema threatens to destroy white South African’s dinner table if everyone is not allowed to eat
During his address to EFF supporters at the party’s final campaign rally in Soweto, Julius Malema warned white south Africans that they risk losing land and other material gains should they not share these possessions. The Economic Freedom Fighter leader believes that harmony can only be achieved if equality is achieved and accuses white citizens of protecting their privilege.

Eldos & Kliptown voters assigned various voting stations
With the national elections only a day away, Eldorado Park and Kliptown residents, who are registered to vote, will make their way to various voting stations in their respective communities.

 


Surviving Vlakfontein murder suspect back in court
Fita Khupe is expected back in the Lenasia Magistrate’s court today for the murder off 7 Vlakfontein family members in October last year. The 61-year-old is the only surviving suspect after his co-accused, Ernest Mabaso, was found dead in a cape town police holding cell in January. The directorate of public prosecutions still has to give its decision to the court on where the case will be tried. The bodies of 3 women and 4 children were uncovered buried under piles of sand in their Vlakfontein home.

 


Logistical issues cost the elderly their vote
A number of elderly voters at Andries Meyer Old Age Home in Eldorado Park have been left out of the special voting process despite having applied with the IEC. Today is the last day of special voting ahead of the general elections tomorrow where millions of South Africans will cast their ballot. The fifth general election has seen a historically higher number of political parties contesting the election.

DA Gauteng premier zooms in on social ills faced by Eldorado Park
Eldorado Park residents were addressed by Gauteng premier for the Democratic Alliance Solly Msimanga at the Don Mateman Hall in Extension 5 last night, merely hours before national elections. Msimanga was joined by a panel including local ward councillors and MMC for Health and Social Development Mpho Phalatse.

MMC for Health and Social Development Mpho Phalatse formed part of last night’s panel who addressed Eldorado Park residents at the Don Mateman Hall in a bid to campaign for the Democratic Alliance at the last minute before elections.

Family of Shiraz Mohammed await a response from Ramaphosa
Mother of photojournalist Shiraaz Mohammed, together with her family, picketed at Hitekani Primary in Soweto yesterday to appeal to President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene with his alleged kidnapping. Shiraaz’s mother, Shireen Mohammed, upon speaking to eldosfm, said the family wants the president to take 5 minutes out of his time to read the letter sent to him by the family, requesting help with her son’s release. Shiraz was believed to be kidnapped in Syria in 2017 while accompanying aid organisation Gift of the Givers to document its work at a hospital near the Turkish border.

Depression and Anxiety support group to take place in Eldos tomorrow
In the wake of Depression and anxiety awareness, tomorrow a support group session will be held at 10 am and will conclude at 11:30 am. The support group session will take place in ext. 2 Roggeveldstreet at the Eldorado Park True Men's Forum.
